De­catur stu­dents par­tic­i­pate in a hip-hop mu­sic con­cert

DE­CATUR — Thir­dand fourth-grade classes at De­catur North­side Ele­men­tary par­tic­i­pated in the an­nual Win­ter Mu­sic Con­cert in the school cafe­te­ria Dec. 13. More than 100 area res­i­dents gath­ered to hear the stu­dents present the fi­nal work on which prepa­ra­tions be­gan sev­eral weeks ear­lier.

Kristin Wages, North­side’s mu­sic spe­cial­ist, led both groups in such songs as “Deck the Halls” and “Hip Hop Rein­deer.”

First up was the third graders who per­formed a vari­a­tion on Ru­dolph called “Turn Off That Nose,” fol­lowed by a pair of rap/hip-hop num­bers called “Rap of the Presents” and “Hip Hop Rein­deer,” each com­plete with a unique brand of moves.

The fourth graders fol­lowed with “Deck the Halls,” “Win­ter Fan­tasy” and “Foesta De Navi­dad.”

The con­cert con­cluded with both groups join­ing forces to per­form the clas­sic old English carol, “The Twelve Days of Christ­mas.”
