Time changes all, but not all change is good!

Time changes all things. If you haven’t witnessed it, just wait a minute.

My close relative has pictures on the refrigerator of grands as they played on ball teams from year to year, and the changes are just remarkable. One short 12 months and they have changed again, growing up. Time also changes the place we call ours.

I remember a small town several miles away from where I grew up being a good place to buy groceries and tack. My Pappy liked to visit with the saddle maker and bought all his needed equipment from the man. The feller had some boys younger than me, and I watched them play when we were there. Then the tornado came and took the town almost completely off the face of the earth, including that young family. A complete change happened.

I am saying all that to say this: change is not always good! I guess that feller at the feed store thought he was correct when he muttered something about change being good. He liked the idea of a four-lane highway that would completely change the route to the larger town and cut through farms and ranches on the way. I don’t like losing the two-lane and all the good things along the way.

The change will bring noise and trucks and speeds that are able to maim and kill. The chemicals that are expelled from the exhausts will pollute the pristine air, and God help the cowboy driving cattle across the four lanes to another pasture. The connection to other states will invite all people, good or bad. Some will transport foods and supplies and some will transport drugs and maybe even people that have been taken against their will. No, I don’t relish the change.

The routes have not been established as of yet, and maybe will miss us completely.

Won’t break my heart if the thing is 50 miles to the east. I don’t need to hurry anywhere that I can’t make it on the old pothole filled two-lane! So, you see, change comes as time moves on. You can’t stop time, and you can’t stop change.

Some things change easier than others, like the seasons, and we have had a season of moisture that I have never seen before. The grass is growing faster than we can graze it down, even with added cattle. The ground is so saturated that I am pretty sure the rocks are holding water now. We have some hay cut, promises of about four days of sunshine and we know we are gonna have to take some chances or buy hay. The banker frowns on that!

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, knowing who is in control of this world is a peace provider. I know, I have faith He will provide what we need. I grit my teeth and pace the floor just like some who don’t know, but I am foolish that way at times. Sure need some sunshine and haying weather, need some drying out of fields for reseeding, need to stop moaning, too! I will not complain about the rain — too many dry years under my belt — but I am in need of sunshine!

If your rubber boots are worn out, call me and I will direct you to the wholesale place I have used for two new pair!
