Bailey announces candidacy for district judge

-

WESTSIDE — Siloam Springs prosecuting attorney David Bailey has announced his candidacy for Benton County district judge serving Siloam Springs in the March 3, 2020, nonpartisan judicial primary. Judge Stephen Thomas, the incumbent in the position, is not seeking reelection.

Bailey has been an attorney for 23 years in Benton County. He works in the area of family and civil law in Siloam Springs and his firm was voted six times as Best Law Firm by the Siloam Springs Herald-Leader (People’s Choice Award.) His is one of the few law firms whose personnel are fluent in Spanish, and Bailey believes his fluency will help people communicate with the court since interpreters are not always readily available.

“David has proven himself to be an outstanding attorney and a hard worker for his clients, for Siloam Springs and for all of Benton County. He stood strong against drunk driving while serving as the prosecuting attorney for Siloam Springs for nearly 20 years. I believe he will make an excellent judge,” said Gravette Mayor Kurt Maddox.

“David has a calm temperament and will treat everybody fairly, regardless of who they are,” said attorney Sach Oliver.

“I make no apologies for the fact that as a prosecuting attorney my record is being tough on guilty DWI drivers. I worked with Rep. Robin Lundstrum and Sen. Jim Hendren in making our DWI laws tougher for drunk drivers who cross our borders from the casino in Oklahoma or from Missouri,” said Bailey.

“It’s vitally important to me that our streets and schools remain safe. Safety will be a top priority for me as your district judge,” he added.

“I believe it’s important for a judge to serve the people — not the other way around. I believe a judge can do much more than hand out a penalty — for example, I’ll urge our community to build a stronger safety network for women and children who are caught in a broken cycle of violence or drugs,” said Bailey.

Bailey and his wife Carla live near Gravette and attend the First Baptist Church of Gravette.
