Dealing with life has one distinct order to learn early

I was up to break daylight this morning. It is good to hear the silence of the country just before the sun begins to creep up the horizon. Nothing moves around until that first little shade of light, and then the birds wake up and fluff their feathers and the day starts. I had my coffee and watched a pair of brown wren-like looking birds fuss over a limb, must have been brothers.

My close relative was cooking bacon and making biscuits when I went to the kitchen. We are a blessed bunch and wellfed around here. Never rich with assets like folding money, but my banker’s life would be dull without me so I am successfully fulfilling a need!

The hay season of 2019 will be one to remember. We have forage stacked up for the winter and hope it will be enough, want to get another two cuttings and maybe we will. We do not know if the rain is over for the summer, if the armyworms are marching or if the million other things could happen to prevent more cuttings. We do know the faith we have in our Lord is all that keeps us getting up and going on.

My neighbor about 12 miles to the southeast of here is selling out and I am sorry to see the family name on the place change. They were here when I came and made a good life on that place. The family they raised moved on to other professions and age took the originals to task. The worn and fragile couple finally made the decision to move into town and make the trip to get a few groceries be pleasant instead of a journey. The land sold last week and the farm sale is tomorrow.

My close relative will go and help serve sandwiches and pie to all the folks who are going through the items on the trailers and looking through the boxes. I suppose I will miss the doings. I suffer for the family. I don’t want to see folks going through their life’s worth of collections of wrenches or her tablecloths. I will not watch as the crowd bids on the dining room table where that family celebrated holidays and births and suffered deaths. I am a sissy and the lump in my throat would come near to choking me because it cuts off air now just thinking about the ordeal. They made the right decision, but that is painful and I appreciate their courage.

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, dealing with life has one distinct order to learn early, to have power over your attitude. It is the necessary attribute you need as the agony of life and the joys of living come into your days. It is not the easiest thing to do, but practice it and use it to keep a smile on your face. Makes others around you more pleasant and some will wonder what you have been up to!
