Community Thanksgivi­ng canceled

Gravette Church of Christ announced that this year’s Community Thanksgivi­ng Dinner is canceled due to the ongoing risks associated with the covid-19 virus.

Trick or Treat on Main Street canceled

Due to covid-19, the Gentry Trick or Treat on Main Street event, sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, has been canceled for this year. Social distancing guidelines would be impossible with the large number of children and adults that would be present on Main Street. The Chamber is, however, urging parents and children to continue the old-fashioned form of trick or treat in Gentry neighborho­ods on Oct. 31. The Chamber plans to resume its annual event in 2021.

Gentry Glow Ride canceled

Also canceled this year in Gentry, due to covid-19 precaution­s, is the annual glow ride on Main Street. The cycling event, sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, will, hopefully, be resumed in the fall of 2021.

Kiwanis host candidates

The Gravette Kiwanis Club will be hearing from candidates for political office at their meeting this Friday, Oct. 2. Celeste Williams, candidate for the Third Congressio­nal District, and Shane Hargrave, candidate for Gravette City Council, will be speaking. Kiwanis Club meetings are held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Gravette Civic Center and are open to the public. Visitors are asked to wear a mask when arriving and until seated when physical distancing is not possible.

Benefit car show

Gravette Cruise and Quarantine is sponsoring a car show Sunday, Nov. 15, to benefit the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter. The event will be held (rain or shine) at Simple Pleasures in Bella Vista. The registrati­on fee is $25, which includes two meal tickets (excluding drinks). Spectator entry fee is $5 for adults. Youngsters 17 and under are free. Registrati­on will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Judging will be at 12:30 p.m. and awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m. There will be trophies, door prizes and a silent auction. Drive-through flu shot clinic

The Billy V. Hall Activity and Wellness Center, at 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette, is offering senior citizens a drive-through flu shot clinic today, Sept. 30, from 9 to 11 a.m. Interested persons must sign up in advance and provide their Medicare card. Call the Center, 479-787-5950, to sign up. Shots are provided by Teasley Drug.

Volunteers needed for meal delivery in Gentry

Meals on Wheels volunteers are needed to ride along in the food truck to assist in delivering meals to shut-ins in Gentry. Volunteers are needed for any day but Tuesday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. For more informatio­n, call 479-524-5735.

First Baptist food pantry

First Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Roller Ave. in Decatur, holds a community food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more informatio­n, contact the church at 479-2826658.

GFA food pantry drive-through

GFA Pantry Inc. at the Gentry Assembly is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The pantry is drive-through only during the covid-19 pandemic. Clients are asked to call 662-727-5157 or email gfapantry@gmail. com for appointmen­ts. They then can pull up to the drive-through awning and someone will meet them outside and get them signed in and bring their food to their vehicle. This is until further notice. The church partners with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies are also available as supplies last.

Gentry Public Library open for limited hours

Gentry Public Library is open for limited hours — from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday — and is offering curbside service every day. Email bookmark@ gentrylibr­ary.us or call 479-736-2054. The library catalog can be contacted via Atrium.

Bella Vista Area Radio Club

The Bella Vista Area Radio Club is conducting virtual meetings on the first Thursday of each month via YouTube Live. In-person monthly license testing has resumed on the second Saturday of the month. Gravette Farmers Market

The Gravette Farmers Market is open on Saturdays in Old Town Park. Hours for the market are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fresh fruits and vegetables, plants, eggs, farm-raised beef and pork products, jams and jellies, honey, baked goods and crafts are available. Senior Farmers Market coupons and WIC vouchers will be honored. Potential vendors should call manager Beth Patton at 479-787-3313 to reserve a booth.

Library board meetings

Meetings of the Gravette Public Library advisory board are held at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the library. The library is located at 119 Main St. S.E. All meetings are open to the public.
