Car show hits milestone

DECATUR — The second event of the 68th Decatur Barbecue set a new attendance record for the most vehicles on display during the one-day event.

Visitors to the barbecue only had to look up the long hill of the Frisbee Golf Course at Veterans Park in Decatur on Aug. 6 to see the 35 cars and trucks on display during the everpopula­r Decatur Barbecue car show.

Cars started arriving around 8 a.m. two hours before the event was scheduled to open. By 10 a.m., the hill began to fill up, with more pulling in by the minute.

By 11 a.m. the judges got their chance to look over the many cars and trucks and pick winners in seven different categories. The show ended at 2 p.m. with the award ceremony held on the third tee of the Frisbee Golf Course. Listed below are the first-, second- and third-places in each category.

1st Classic Car: Jim Brummitt — 1968 AMX

2nd Classic Car: Ike Owens — 1974 Plymouth Roadrunner

3rd Classic Car: Bob Hickman — 1970 Chevy Chevelle

1st Classic Truck: Tammy Forman — 192 Chevy C10 pickup

2nd Classic Truck: Larry Garner — 1950 Willis Jeep

3rd Classic Truck: Ladale Harris — 1963 Chevy pickup

1st Modern Car: Kenneth Blossom — 205 Ford Mustang

2nd Modern Car: Bob Mcrackin — 2019 Chevy Corvette 206

3rd Modern Car: Rodney Ball — 2013 Chevy Camaro

1st Modern Truck: James Kelsay — 1987 Chevy Silverado pickup
