SPRINGTOWN — The town council in Springtown, at its July 13 meeting, heard reports and decided to fly flags only during holidays and events, according to meeting minutes.

With Mayor Terri Glenn, Recorder-Treasurer Shelly McGarrah, and council members Chuck Bostwick, Janet Bostwick, Barbara Goodman, Virginia Riley and David Clark present, the council approved financial reports and yearto-date summaries of the General and Street funds, heard that the needed storm siren updates had been completed with the help of Gentry Fire Chief Vester Cripps and that the sirens are working.

A Food Pantry in the Park update was provided by Councilwoman Goodman, with donations needed for non-food items, toiletries, and laundry supplies.

It was reported that the Readings Road Project would be completed by Reams Excavating as Vernon Reams’ schedule and the weather allow. The culvert for Wasson Road has been purchased and will be installed.

With two of the new flags having been stolen recently, it was decided that the flags will be removed and hung only to celebrate holidays and events. However, the flag in the city park will remain.

Alderman Clark asked about annexing additional land to increase tax revenues and allow the development of town amenities such as law enforcement.

According to meeting minutes, it was pointed out that annexation would not be feasible.
