Decatur City Hall receives shower
DECATUR — If you stopped to pay your water bill, drop off kids at Decatur Pre-K or simply drove by Decatur City Hall, located on Maple and Jo Streets in Decatur Thursday afternoon, you might have noticed a change in how the old historic building looked. That is because the 85-yearold stucco building received a much-needed shower.
A local low-pressure power washing crew spent the day washing the years of grime and dirt off of the building, which at one time was the old Decatur school building and former Decatur High School.
Decatur City Council gave the green light during a recent meeting to hire the power wash team to restore the natural beauty of the historic structure.
Over the years, grime had stained the window frames and the walls below the frames. In one day, the crew took off this unsightly grime, and now the building looks as new as it did when the city took it over in the early 1980s.
The plants were also trimmed back, and the area around the base of the building was weeded. Today it takes its place alongside the Decatur Depot and the log cabin as a shining example of Decatur pride.
