Lady Bulldogs fall to Lady Griffins

ROGERS — The Decatur Lady Bulldog volleyball teams took to the road Thursday afternoon for their first road contests of the new season and the final matches of the first week. Ahead were the Ozark Catholic Academy Lady Griffins at St. Vincent de Paul school in Rogers Thursday afternoon.

Since the Tontitownbased Ozark Catholic Academy has no facilities to hold practices or competitions, the school relies on its sister schools and the Arkansas Athletes Outreach facilities in Fayetteville and Rogers to fill its needs. In this case, St. Vincent de Paul had an open volleyball court for the Lady Griffins to hold the Decatur-OCA competition.

Both Lady Bulldog junior high A and B teams claimed victories in their matches, extending both teams’ winning streaks to three games.

The varsity girls hit the court with one thing in mind, to extend their winning streak to three straight as well.

In the early stages of the match, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out in front of the Lady Griffins and held on to take the first set. After that, it was all Lady Griffins as Ozark Catholic Academy took the next three sets to defeat the Decatur Bulldogs, three sets to one.

The Bulldogs will continue their road trips for the next three matches. The first was with the Mansfield Lady Tigers on Tuesday (after press deadline). On Thursday, Decatur travels to Lavaca to take on the Lady Golden Arrows. And then it is on to Eureka Springs to take on the rival Lady Highlanders on Sept. 6 before returning home to Decatur on Sept. 8 against the Thaden Lady Barnstormers. All contests start with junior high matches at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity matches following.
