Lions drag down Longhorns, 37-0

GRAVETTE — The Lions scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, another in the second, two in the third and one more in the fourth quarter for the 37-0 shutout of the Inola (Okla.) Longhorns on Friday night at Inola High School.

The Lions had three defensive pick-six touchdowns in the game: Ethan Ellis intercepte­d a Longhorn pass and ran it 62 yards into the end zone, Ian Leonard ran one back 53 yards, and Shad Nelson 25 yards into the end zone.

The Lions had 138 rushing yards in the game and another 169 yards through the air.

Gabriel Holmes scored twice on passing plays, and Kyler Austin carried one across the goal line. Holmes also kicked one point-after for the Lions.

Shad Nelson had five tackles and two assists in the game. Austin had three and three. Christian Thrailkill had three tackles and four assists. Garrett Merworth sacked the longhorn quarterbac­k twice.

Rhett Hilger threw 22 passes for the Lions, completing 11 of them for 166 yards. Hilger carried the ball three times for 50 yards. Austin carried 13 times for 83 yards. Holmes had 124 receiving yards in addition to completing a pass for another three yards in the game.

The Lions are scheduled to host the Tigers from Prairie Grove on Friday in a nonconfere­nce matchup. Game time in Lion Stadium is 7 p.m.
