Gravette falls 28-14 at Elkins
GRAVETTE — The Lions were unable to bring down the Elks at Elkins on Friday night, losing the conference contest, 28-14.
The Elks took an early lead in the opening quarter, with two touchdowns and points after for a 14-0 lead going into quarter two.
In the second quarter, the Lions were able to respond with two TDs on Rhett Hilger passes to sophomores Gabriel Holmes and James Marta — with Hilger running in a two-point conversion — but the Elks scored again and finished the half out front, 21-14.
The Lions were unable to score in the second half, but the Elks added seven more points to the scoreboard in the final quarter for the 28-14 win.
The Lions finished the game with 176 passing yards and 103 rushing yards. Holmes led in receiving yards with 105 on nine carries. Mason Meeker, a senior, carried three times for 64 yards. On the ground, Kyler Austin picked up 88 yards on 26 carries.
Gravette is now 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Lions host the Lincoln Wolves on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m. in Lion Stadium.
