DECATUR — As the 2022 football season begins to wind down, the Decatur Bulldogs varsity returned to Bulldog Stadium in Decatur Friday night to square off against the Hector Wildcats in another 2A West conference contest. Bulldog football fans faced another night of disappointment as the Wildcats rolled over the Bulldogs by six touchdowns and a host of conversions and extra points.

The opening quarter got off to a shaky start with Hector running for a trio of touchdowns, two conversions and a field goal, taking a 21-0 lead going into the second quarter.

The Bulldogs tried getting back into the contest behind quarterback Brandon Montano and receivers and running backs Landon Watson, Jose Uribe and Dayton Butlers but the Wildcat defensive line was just too strong for Decatur’s offensive line to hold back throughout the remaining three quarters.

Although the Decatur Bulldogs never gave up and continued to play hard, and in the final quarter began to move the ball past midfield, the Hector Wildcats took the conference win, 48-0.

On Thursday night, both the Decatur Bulldog seventh grade and junior high traveled to Hector for a pair of contests at Wildcat Stadium. Both teams were able to score on the Hector defense. The Wildcat offensive found the end zone a few more times than Decatur to take the win in both contests.

All three Decatur Bulldog football teams have the night off on Oct. 21 but return to the Friday night lights on Oct. 28 when the team travels to Coal Hill to take on the Johnson County Westside Rebels in a conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The seventh-grade and junior high teams return to action at Bulldog Stadium in Decatur for a pair of football contests against the Johnson County Westside Rebels. The seventh-grade contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start, with the junior high starting at 7 p.m.
