- STAFF REPORT

GRAVETTE — Gravette merchants, in cooperation with the Greater Gravette Chamber of Commerce, plan to celebrate Hometown Christmas on Main from 3 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10. Organizers promise participants will feel as if they have stepped into a Hallmark Christmas special. Lighting of a Christmas tree at the intersection of Main Street and Second Avenue will be held at 7 p.m.

Activities will kick off at 3 p.m. with a kid’s zone and a petting zoo for the kids. A living nativity will be on display, and various vendors’ booths will be set up on Main Street. Booths will include merchandise booths, charitable foundation and informational booths and booths offering various holiday treats. A $100 prize, donated by the Furlow family, is being offered for the best-decorated booth.

Local merchants have been invited to decorate their windows and compete for a window decorating prize. Merchants will have a ballot box located in their businesses where shoppers can vote for the best-decorated window. Voting begins on Nov. 26 and will end the day of the event at 6:30 p.m. Ballot boxes will be set around the Christmas tree on the 10th for those who have not voted earlier.

Residents are able to compete for a prize by playing Business Bingo. Bingo cards can be picked up at participating area merchants or at the chamber office during regular business hours. Each card will have businesses listed on it, and players will get their card stamped when they visit each business. Each card (one to a person) must be completely stamped before being entered in a designated ballot box near the Christmas tree. The drawing will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Youngsters in Glenn Duffy Elementary and Gravette Upper Elementary may enter a coloring contest at their schools. Their artwork will be displayed around the Christmas tree. Entrants are also being sought for the Miss Merry Christmas pageant, to be held from 4 to 5 p.m. near the Christmas tree. Age groups are Baby Miss, 0-23 mo.; Mini Miss, 2-4 years; Little Miss, 5-8 years; Preteen Miss, 9-12 years; Teen Miss, 13-17 years; Miss, 18-29 years; Elite Miss, 30 and over.
