GENTRY — The Pioneers couldn’t quite keep pace with the Ozark Catholic Griffins at a nonconference home game at Gentry High School on Thursday.

The Pioneers saw a slight early lead fade away by the end of the first quarter, with the Griffins up by two at the first buzzer, 13-11. By the half, the Pioneers were down 21-15.

The Griffins built on that lead with a 12-8 third quarter and a 17-14 final quarter for the final 50-37 win over the Pioneers.

Rebounding and ball control hurt the Pioneers early on, with the Griffins repeatedly stealing the ball or intercepting Gentry passes and racing to their goal for the layup.

Though he had a hard time shooting from the sidelines early in the game, Addi Taylor hit four 3-pointers in the game and was Gentry’s leading scorer with 12.

Jacob Brown added seven points in the final quarter with a trey and a pair of deuces. Garret Jech had two field goals in the opening quarter and one more in the fourth. Gauge Thompson and Hayden Henry had three points each, and Quan Tran, Dalton Richardson and Jonathon Corter each added two.
