Christmas magic brings Santa to Decatur

DECATUR — Now that the day of giving thanks for the many blessings (family, friends, faith and freedom) we, as a nation, have received in 2022 has passed, it is time to turn our attention to the pending Christmas season. One question that is on the minds of kids across the nation is, “How can Santa be in so many places at once?” The answer: Christmas magic.

And as the man in red has done for over 100 years, Santa will make his traditional stopover in Decatur on Dec. 9 during the Decatur Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Parade through downtown Decatur, beginning at 6 p.m.

In addition to the jolly old elf himself, Mrs. Claus and many of his hardworking helpers will be on hand to meet and greet kids of all ages, as well as collect Christmas lists from all the good boys and girls of Decatur.

This year’s theme is “Let Your Light Shine for Christmas.” Prizes will be awarded to the floats that best use this theme.

The lineup for this year’s event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the car wash on the corner of Third Street and South Main Street in Decatur. The parade will wind its way past the Decatur Depot, down Main Street, and end at Decatur City Hall.

Make plans to come out and see Santa, Mrs. Claus, and his whole crew on Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. in the community room at Decatur City Hall. And remember, it is nearing winter time, so make sure the kids are dressed warm and dry so everyone can enjoy the festivities that make Christmas a special time of year.
