Morning on beach, afternoon at Fort Moultrie, dinner at Poe’s or Fiery Ron’s.
After working on that tan at the beach, check out the Sullivan’s Island Lighthouse. The structure itself may be fenced off to the public, but the grounds are still exploratory and, with the Life Saving Station and its coastal architecture nearby, it all makes for an excellent photo opportunity.
Steer your way to Fort Moultrie and its visitors center—it was here that the first decisive victory for the American colonies occurred and from which the first shots of the Civil War were fired upon Fort Sumter. Admission to the center and fort grounds is a reasonably priced three bucks for adults.
Head to Poe’s Tavern for a juicy burger and a cold beer while marveling at the kitschy interior, including Poe T-shirts. Or, if barbecue’s more your hankering, Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ also is located nearby; in addition to pulled pork and chickden, it features live music on weekends.
