To the south­east of An­der­son­ville is gritty Up­town, a ma­jor en­ter­tain­ment dis­trict in the early 1900s, home to early film pro­duc­tion house Es­sanay Stu­dios; the now-shut­tered 4,500-seat Up­town The­atre, once the city’s largest movie palace; and still-go­ing-strong live mu­sic clubs like The Aragon, The Riviera and the le­gendary Green Mill, a fa­vorite han­gout of Al Capone.
