AVENUE DELICATESSEN

Where Philadelphia - - WHERE NOW PHILADELPHIA -

Just 10 minutes outside the city, in the up-and- coming town of Lansdowne, the Avenue Delicatessen is a sunny spot the community has really taken to since it opened in 2013. Owner Brian Flounders and Head Chef Maureen Stoebenau marry Italian and Jewish heritages into a restaurant that celebrates both distinct deli cultures. Open for breakfast and lunch only, the white-and-aqua space is the place for traditional dishes like housesmoked trout salad bagels and ‘South Philly’ chicken cutlet sandwiches layered with broccoli rabe and mozzarella, as well as clever cultural mash-ups like Rueben arancini and Jewish wedding soup, featuring both veal meatballs and matzo balls.
