San Fran­cisco In­ter­na­tional Film Fes­ti­val

The long­est run­ning film fes­ti­val in the Amer­i­cas re­turns to San Fran­cisco. Now in its 58th year, the San Fran­cisco In­ter­na­tional Film Fes­ti­val (SFIFF) fea­tures around 175 films from more than 50 coun­tries screen­ing at the­aters all around town, in­clud­ing the Kabuki, Cas­tro, Clay and Roxie the­aters. Nearly 100 film­mak­ers will be vis­it­ing, among them Guillermo del Toro and Richard Gere, who will both par­tic­i­pate in on-stage con­ver­sa­tions ex­plor­ing their re­spec­tive ca­reers. The open­ing night film is “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Ma­chine,” a doc­u­men­tary about the tech icon, and later in the week, spe­cial screen­ings fea­ture mu­sic ac­com­pa­ni­ment by Cibo Matto and the Kronos Quar­tet. sffs.org
