Where San Francisco - - Editor's Note - Rachel Ward Editor, San Francisco @wanderingrachel

I visited the Legion of Honor Museum twice in one week last month. I attended the press preview for the current exhibit “Monet: The Early Years” on a Thursday morning and came back that Saturday to explore it again with a friend. I had the chance to hear the charismatic curator George T.M. Shackelford of the Kimbell Art Museum give compelling commentary on the paintings in person during the media-only event, and when I returned, I discovered that you too can listen to Shackelford’s insight via the audio tour, which is well worth the $8. I’d suggest taking any excuse to visit this museum, a palatial, French neoclassical structure that’s one of my favorite settings in the city. Built on a bluff, it’s flanked by a manicured lawn overlooking the bay with the wild Marin Headlands in the distance and Monterey pines in the foreground.
