Ac­tivists are or­ga­niz­ing to cre­ate a Wis­con­sin Farm­ers Union chap­ter in Ash­land and Bay­field coun­ties. WFU is a mem­ber-driven group com­mit­ted to en­hanc­ing the qual­ity of life for fam­ily farm­ers, ru­ral com­mu­ni­ties and all peo­ple through ed­u­ca­tional op­por­tu­ni­ties, co­op­er­a­tive en­deav­ors and civic en­gage­ment. The League of Women Vot­ers of Wis­con­sin re­cently pub­lished a voter guide to the 2018 elec­tions, which in­cludes an­swers from gu­ber­na­to­rial can­di­dates in the Demo­cratic pri­mary. The Amer­i­can Civil Lib­er­ties en­cour­ages sup­port­ers to call their U.S. sen­a­tors and ask them to sup­port the cam­paign to strip the Depart­ment of Home­land Se­cu­rity of tax­payer fund­ing be­cause of the Trump ad­min­is­tra­tion’s harsh im­mi­gra­tion poli­cies. Here’s a sam­ple script: “Hi, my name is (your name) and my ZIP code is (your ZIP code). Do not use my tax­payer money to fund the Depart­ment of Home­land Se­cu­rity as it con­tin­ues to de­tain fam­i­lies, abuse im­mi­grant chil­dren and un­leash ICE to ter­ror­ize com­mu­ni­ties.” Get con­nected: 202224-3121 for the Capi­tol switch­board

Mil­wau­kee Wa­ter Com­mons, Mil­wau­kee River­keeper, Sea Grant Univer­sity of Wis­con­sin and the Har­bor Dis­trict are work­ing with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Mil­wau­kee Ma­rine Po­lice to present the 2018 Cream City Clas­sic. The race, set for Aug. 11 and be­gin­ning at the Erie Street pier, is billed as “Mil­wau­kee’s first open river swim.” A goal is to pro­mote wa­ter ed­u­ca­tion and recre­ation and even­tu­ally raise money to en­sure all neigh­bor­hoods have ac­cess to pools and swim­ming lessons. The Hu­man Rights Cam­paign’s Equal­ity Corps is a com­mu­nity of equal rights ad­vo­cates who email, call and tweet law­mak­ers, at­tend ral­lies and join other ef­forts.
