My Guardian Angel

When Woman’s World reader, Emma Sedall, of Schaumburg, Illinois, was missing her dad at Thanksgiving, the angels let her know that he was still nearby. She writes:

-

My father and I were very close. When his health began to fail, I was devastated. The night he passed away, I was sitting beside his hospital bed. I clearly remember glancing up at the wall clock. It was 11:45 p.m.

Though I had been planning an extended trip to Europe, I canceled and decided to take a job as a bank teller where I met my future husband. When Thanksgiving rolled around that year, I invited my new boyfriend to have dinner with my family.

Dad’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. He always cooked the turkey, basting it with herbs and roasting it in the oven on low heat through the night. Because I’d always been his faithful assistant, I decided to carry on the tradition and invited my family to join me.

“I glanced at the clock, and it was 11:45, the exact time Dad had passed!” Emma marvels

The evening before Thanksgiving, my family and I gathered in the kitchen, drinking hot cocoa and chatting while I prepared the turkey. Our conversation soon turned to how much we all missed Dad. It would be our fi rst Thanksgiving without him.

As we talked, I remembered some stories I’d read in the “My Guardian Angel” column of Woman’s World from readers who had asked the angels for signs from their deceased loved ones. Suddenly, I blurted, “I wish the angels would send us a sign that Dad is happy and knows about my wonderful new boyfriend!”

No sooner than the words were out of my mouth, the kitchen door that was tightly closed blew wide open and a wind rushed through our little kitchen, blowing napkins off the table and billowing the window curtains. As mom hurriedly closed the door, I glanced up at the clock. It was 11:45, the exact time that Dad had passed. All of us had tears in our eyes. “You are still with us!” I wept. The next day, as we gathered around the dinner table, we said a special prayer of thanks to the angels for letting us know that Dad was with us that Thanksgiving Day— and every day!

“Emma’s father certainly was with his family for Thanksgiving . . . which he illustrated in a very clear and dramatic way!” says Doreen Virtue, PH.D. “Emma’s family had hoped that their father was watching over them . . . or even with them . . . yet, they may have also had their doubts. So the angels devised a way to remove any doubt about his presence— and they used divinely perfect timing to make the sign extra- clear.

“The door flying open represented the gates being opened between Heaven and Earth, so that Emma’s father could visit his beloved family for his favorite holiday.

“I really believe that our loved ones watch over our holiday celebrations, and they appreciate us remembering them. Like Emma, you can ask for a sign from above. It may not be as intense as Emma’s, but you can be sure that the angels will tailor- make the sign so that you’ll have no doubts.

“The angels say: ‘During the holidays when you need extra support and comfort, we angels gather even closer to your side.’ ”

Doreen says:

Angels are unlimited beings who can take on countless forms!
