My Guardian Angel

When Woman’s World reader, Debra Beall, of Horicon, Wisconsin, asked her mother for a sign from Heaven, the angels sent two special messages of love. She writes:

My mother, Lorelei, and I were best friends and spent lots of time together sharing our innermost thoughts and feelings. So when Mom was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer and there was no chemotherapy that would help fight the disease, I was devastated.

Mom became part of a clinical trial, and we hoped it would be her miracle. For the fi rst few months it seemed to work, then suddenly, the cancer returned, more powerful than ever. With no further treatment available, Mom decided she wanted to live out the rest of her days at home.

We called in hospice, but I had just retired from nursing and became her primary caregiver. Before she lapsed into a coma, we had lots of heart-toheart talks about angels and shared some of the stories from the “My Guardian Angel” column in Woman’s World. We were particularly interested in the stories from readers whose deceased loved ones sent them Heavenly signs.

“Suddenly, there were cardinals everywhere!” Debra marvels

I asked Mom to send me a sign when she had crossed over to the other side—letting me know that she was happy and safe. As I sobbed, she took my hand and promised that she would do so.

“Just keep your eyes and heart open to whatever I send you,” she said.

My mother loved cardinals, and for several weeks after she passed, I saw them everywhere: on my porch, windowsill, even on the hood of my car. It was a joyous experience, because I knew Mom was fulfi lling her promise. As time passed, and my grief eased, the cardinals stopped visiting.

Several months passed, and one morning I awoke feeling sad and lonely.

“Angels,” I called out, “please send me another sign that Mom is happy and still with me.”

Then I walked into the kitchen to get my morning cup of coffee, and I turned on my computer.

I am a member of an animal rescue organization, and as I scrolled through the website, I saw a picture of a woman who had adopted a terrier and the caption read: Lorelei has found her forever home!

I began to cry tears of joy. This is what my mother had meant when she said: “Keep your eyes and heart open to whatever I send to you.”

From that time forward, a true peace fi lled my heart, and I knew without a doubt that Mom was still with me, watching over me like a guardian angel.

“Lorelei sure is watching over Debra, and will certainly continue to send her signs from above!” says Doreen Virtue, PH.D. “Cardinals are a classic sign from God and Heaven— especially if it’s a favorite bird— from our loved ones. Cardinals are normally shy birds, so when they sit still near a person, that’s always a loving signal from someone in Heaven.

“How beautiful that Debra was divinely guided to look at her animal rescue group at exactly the moment when she needed a sign— and what a clear sign from above! There’s no doubt that this was a message that Lorelei had safely made it to Heaven!

“If you didn’t have a conversation about sending signs before your loved one passed, please don’t worry— because you can ask right now! And like Debra, be open to noticing the signs, as they will come after you ask.

“The angels say: ‘We are the messengers sent between Heaven and Earth to bring you signs of love from above.’ ”

Doreen says: Allow others to give you loving care. Receive without guilt or apologies
