The purr-fect way to Celebrate the USA!
Turn a work glove into a pot of adorable patriotic kitties all ready to celebrate the nation’s birthday!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED ❑ Man’s canvas work glove ❑ 5"x5" round papier mâché box ❑ Decoart® Americana® paints: Graphite, Moon Yellow, Slate Grey, Snow White, True Blue ❑ 8 (3 1/2") lengths 7/8" red grosgrain ribbon ❑ 1/2 yd. (3/8") starry blue ribbon ❑ Bow of 3/8" starry red ribbon ❑ Beacon Fabri-tac glue ❑ Craft foam: 9"x12" each blue, white; scraps of pink and cat colors ❑ Glitter foam star stickers: 3 (1") white; 3 (3/4") blue; 1 (3/4") red ❑ 5 mini heart stickers ❑ Fiberfill ❑ Black, red permanent markers ❑ 10 (7 mm) wiggle eyes ❑ White paper ❑ 3/8" hole punch ❑ 5 mm rhinestones, 2 each blue, red ❑ Red chalk ❑ Clear Tape ❑ White shredded paper ❑ 2 toothpick flags ❑ Chenille stems in cat colors ❑ 3 (3") squares patriotic paper ❑ 3 skewers Paint top 1 1/2" of box blue, then paint the remainder white. Glue red ribbon vertically, evenly spaced, around box. Cut 7" blue foam circle. Trace box onto center; cut out. Glue brim to box; stick stars to blue band.
2Stuff
glove’s fingers with fiberfill. Paint cat colors. Arms: enlarge pattern (above) at 350%. Cut two for each cat. Draw claws. Cut 1/2"-high triangle ears, 1/2"-wide pink triangle noses. Punch 10 white paper circles. Tie narrow ribbon around necks; add rhinestones, hearts. Glue features. Chalk cheeks and ears.
3Hats.
Cut 4 quartersize blue, 4 dimesize white foam circles. Cut 4 (2 3/4"x7/8") white rectangles. Draw red stripes as shown. Tape short ends together; glue between circles; add blue star ribbon. Glue on hats, ears, bow.
4Glue
the glove into hat box as shown. Stuff with fiberfill, then shredded paper. Add arms, flags. Tails: Fold chenille stems in half; twist halves together; shape, glue on.
5Pinwheels.
Make 3/4" cuts from points toward center of the 3" patriotic paper squares. Fold left points to center; glue; add stars. Tape to skewers.
To make patriotic Canadian kitties, give the cats 10 mm triangle ears and Canadian toothpick fl ags, decorate the box with strips of wide red ribbon and a big maple leaf. Cut three maple leaves from red glitter foam and stick them to the skewers. Enlarge arm and leaf patterns (above) at 400%, then 125%.
