WHAT YOU’LL NEED FOR 7 CUPCAKE BATH BOMBS: 2 cups baking soda 1/2 cup cream of tartar 1 cup cornstarch 1 cup salt (Epsom salts or sea salt) 4 tsp. vanilla essential oil 4 Tbs. oil (any type of moisturizing vegetable oil— such as coconut oil or olive oil) 2 or more drops of food coloring (optional) Cupcake liners and pan Rubber gloves (to prevent stains on hands from food coloring) Spray bottle filled with water FOR (ROYAL) ICING: 3 Tbs. meringue powder 4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar 7 Tbs. lukewarm water 1 drop food coloring (optional) Pastry bag with 1M and plain 1/2" tips Optional decorations: rubber duckies, sprinkles 1In a large bowl, whisk together dry ingredients—baking soda, cream of tartar, cornstarch, salt. (No whisk on hand? Use a serving fork instead!) 2In a small bowl, mix together oils and food coloring. 3Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry— one spoonful at a time. Note: If the mixture starts to foam, you may be adding the wet ingredients too quickly.
4Put on gloves. Knead the mixture with your hands. Spritz with water until the ingredients hold shape when squeezed together. Then place paper cupcake liners into the pan. Press the mixture into each cup. 5Mix up the icing: Place meringue powder and confectioners’ sugar in a mixing bowl and stir at low speed. Add water gradually and continue mixing on medium for 6-7 minutes, until the icing is thick and glossy. Mix in food coloring (optional). 6Pipe the icing: For the ruffled top, use pastry bag fitted with 1M tip and pipe in a circle. Top with sprinkles if desired. Or use a plain tip to pipe bubbles in a circle, stacking as you go. Top with rubber ducky.
