My Guardian Angel

When Woman’s World reader, Barbara Armstrong, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, needed help driving through a storm, angels kept her safe! She writes: “No sooner had I asked the angels for help than a bolt of lightning lit up the exit sign!” Barbara marvels

When my grandson, Ben, was three years old, he spent the summer with me in Mobile, Alabama. To make things easy for his parents, I drove to Austin, Texas, to pick him up.

Not wanting to travel alone, my best friend, Pat, came along. We were having a pleasant trip until, on our way back home, we drove into a blinding thunderstorm! I turned my windshield wipers on high, but I could barely see.

Glancing in the rearview mirror, I noticed that Ben had become eerily quiet in his car seat. “Don’t worry, honey,” I said. “Everything will be fi ne.”

But I quietly admitted to Pat that I was nervous and was pretty sure that I had missed our exit.

I continued crawling along at a snail’s pace. As a thunderclap shook the car, Pat touched my shoulder, calmly saying: “I’ve asked our angels for help. At the next exit, let’s get off the road for a while and make sure we’re going in the right direction.”

I agreed that was a good idea but worried that I wouldn’t see the exit sign in the driving rain.

For many years, I’d heard Pat speak of guardian angels and how they help us during troubled times. We often shared angel stories from Woman’s World.

“Yes, angels, please do help us!” I cried.

No sooner were the words out of my mouth than a bolt of lightning flashed brightly across the sky, lighting up the exit sign on the side of the road. Blessedly, there was a restaurant near the exit ramp where we had refreshments while waiting out the storm.

When we got back on the highway, we saw police officers and a tow truck clearing away a mangled vehicle.

I rolled down my window. “Was anyone hurt?” I asked an officer who was slowly waving us through. He shook his head. “No ma’am. The driver must have had an angel with him because he walked away without a scratch.” An unexplainable peace suddenly fi lled my heart. Not only had the angels guided us off the dangerous highway, they had also saved the life of a driver who was navigating the same storm.

The following day, Pat gifted me with a little angel figurine, saying, “Keep this as a reminder that you can call upon your angel at any time and receive the help you need.”

With tears streaming, I thanked her, knowing that my relationship with the angels had just begun. Since that stormy night, I have asked the angels for help on numerous occasions, and they have never let me down.

My friend has since passed on, but I know that she, too, is watching over me, like a guardian angel.

“We certainly do need the help of God’s angels when driving in torrential storms!” says Doreen Virtue, PH.D. “I even feel that the angels guided Barbara to invite her angelic friend Pat for the drive!

“The angels can and will do anything to protect us, including fl ashing lightning to show Barbara the way to safety. After all, angels have unlimited power.

“I love that the police offi cer credited the angels with protecting the driver in the accident— something unusual and unexpected but very true!

“Pat and Barbara must have been praying for all of the drivers on the road, and not just for themselves.

“The angels say: ‘ We have such compassion for you when you feel frightened, and welcome your requests to bring you to safety and peace.’ ”

You are perfect, whole and complete just as you are
