Guardian Angel George!

When reader, Melissa Baker, of Moody, Texas, asked the angels for a sign from her mom in Heaven, they sent a special feathered friend! She writes:

-

When my parents lost their home in a tornado, they leased a house near mine until their own could be rebuilt. Their temporary residence had lots of greenery and attracted hummingbirds. My daughter, Melinda, then only four, adored watching the tiny creatures.

One bird in particular had a ruby red throat and would buzz around Melinda like crazy, doing air acrobatics. Melinda named her feathered friend George.

One day, my mother was washing dishes while my daughter was down for a nap. Mom happened to glance out the kitchen window and noticed George hovering there. She thought it odd, as his usual place was at the feeder on the opposite end of the house.

Curious, she decided to go outside and have a look— and found the front door unlatched! Running outside, she found Melinda playing near the busy street out front. Mom was convinced that George had warned her of the danger. After that, we referred to him as Guardian Angel George.

After my parents rebuilt, Mom put out hummingbird feeders at her new home but never again saw George. However, he was fondly remembered by us all and became an important part of our family history.

As the years passed, Mom became bedridden, and I took care of her. She had a hummingbird feeder outside her bedroom window and would watch the tiny creatures come and go, and would reminisce about George.

When Mom’s health further declined, my daughter never left her side and was inconsolable when she passed. As we prepared to leave for the funeral, I prayed, “Please God, let your angels send my daughter a sign that Mom is still with us and without pain!”

When we arrived at the cemetery, as Melinda got out of the car, she suddenly stopped and exclaimed, “Look, Mom! It’s George!”

Everyone ducked as a rubythroated hummingbird circled Melinda twice, just like George always did when she was a little girl. I almost stumbled with shock. “But honey, George would be too old to still be here.”

“I know,” she said. “He’s in Heaven with Grandma. But he came to let us know that she’s happy and still with us,” she said, tears streaming from her eyes.

With those words, “George” buzzed back and circled my daughter once again before disappearing into the nearby trees. After seeing George, my daughter’s grief seemed lighter and we all felt a sense of peace. The angels answered my prayer for a sign and even now, when I tell the story, I feel a chill go down my spine, knowing that my mom—and George—are still watching over us. ”
