Welcome birds with a Bottle feeder!

Recycling magic! The kids’ll love transforming an old bottle into a bird feeder—and have even more fun watching feathered friends flock to your yard!

What you’ll need Clean plastic 1-liter bottle We used Red Alert, Bubble2 (8"-10") wooden spoons gum Pink, Cadmium Yellow, Decoart ® Americana ® Orange Flame and Irish Moss acrylic paints in flower colors 12" string

1Prepare

bottle for your child. Use a pushpin to punch a hole 1 1/2" from bottom; poke hole with nail to enlarge. Insert pointed-tip scissors into hole; rotate to make large enough to fit spoon handle. In same manner, make a larger (about 1") hole directly opposite. Make similar holes perpendicular to and about 1" above (use our photo as a guide).

2Your

child paints wooden spoons flower colors. Practicing first on scrap paper, she paints flowers on bottle’s upper two-thirds, painting one side and letting it dry before painting second side. She first paints round flower centers spaced randomly, adds petals around centers, varying colors, adds leaves and stems.

3Use

pushpin to punch a hole in bottle cap and, with nail, enlarge enough to fit string through. Your child folds string in half, ties knot about 2" from fold to form loop, threads ends through hole, knots securely inside. Your child inserts spoons into bottle through holes, fills bottle with birdseed (a funnel will help) and hangs outside.
