Keep your vision sharp for life!

Vision issues aren’t inevitable! No matter what your genes, you can stop vision-sabotaging troubles in their tracks with these tricks:

1 Nourish eyes with nuts!

Having three weekly servings of nuts (about 12 almonds or 20 peanuts) cuts your odds of macular degeneration, the most common agerelated vision problem, 35%, Australian studies show. They’re rich in healthy fats and vitamins A, C and E, which all protect eye tissues!

2 Tap into free tech protection!

Your phone and other electronic devices emit “blue light,” which can blur your vision, says Andrea P. Thau, O.D., president of the American Optometric Association. The free fix? Smartphone apps like F.lux and Twilight, which adjust a screen’s tint so you can view it easily while cutting levels of blue light!

3 Shield your retinas with supplements!

Already have vision problems? Supplements with 10 mg. lutein, 2 mg. zeaxanthin, 25 mg. zinc and 2 mg. copper may slow macular degeneration. “They help protect your retina, which is a layer of tissue at the back of your eye that helps send vision messages to your brain,” Dr. Thau says.

4KO cataracts by dancing!

Research from the American College of Sports Medicine shows that adults who regularly engage in aerobic exercises like dancing and brisk walking are less likely to develop cataracts. “Exercise boosts nutrient-rich blood flow to all parts of your body—including your eyes,” Dr. Thau says.
