Fill up on fall fat-busters!

-

1Make fast, fall-perfect tweaks!

“When the weather gets cooler, we crave foods that warm us up, like hearty soups and stews,” says nutritionist Bonnie Taub- Dix. “The trick is just to pack them full of lowcalorie veggies, beans and corn. You’ll have a warm, low-fat dish that’s still very satisfying!” And the best way to make slimming salads fall-hearty? By topping them with a warm dressing that’s light on oil, she says. Her fave: Mix 1 Tbs. mustard, 1 Tbs. horseradish sauce, 2 tsp. balsamic vinegar and 1 tsp. lemon juice. Warm it up in the microwave and pour over salad greens. “It’s rich and filling. And if you top your salad with some grilled chicken, you’ll get a boost of protein that’ll help you stay full for hours!”

Bust cravings with pumpkin!

“Pumpkin is a superstar,” declares Taub-dix. “It’s packed with fiber and potassium, both of which help curb sugar cravings.” To fit more pumpkin into your diet, add canned or puréed pumpkin to soups and stews, mash it with sweet potatoes, mix it into salad dressings, spread it on sandwiches instead of butter or mayo and, when baking, use 1 cup of pumpkin in place of every cup of oil and 1/4 cup in place of each egg.
