“She gave me a lovely ornament!”

Iwas visiting France when a beautiful display in a shop window caught my eye. The bowl full of Christmas ornaments looked so festive and pretty that I had to go in and ask the price. The store clerk smiled at my question and said the bowl was for sale but not the decorative ornaments. We talked while I looked around, then when I was leaving, she reached into the bowl and handed me an ornament. “It’s a gift!” she explained. I offered to pay for it, but she said, “No, it isn’t a gift if you pay for it!” I will always cherish that lovely ornament— and her gracious act of kindness!
