-

A new study reveals the best-paying side gigs, and among the top is Taskrabbit—an online marketplace that matches folks looking for help with people who’ve got the skills, from picking up groceries to doing personal assistant work and everything in between! Here’s how to get started:

BECOME A TASKER!

Have time to do extra errands, from picking up dog food to waiting in line? Got a special skill—know how to plan parties, make decorations, sell stuff on ebay? Become a Tasker! That’s someone who gets paid to carry out all kinds of odd jobs via Taskrabbit.com, which matches people who need help with folks willing to pitch in— and a recent survey shows users make an average of $380 a month. Simply head to the website to sign up!

CREATE A PROFILE!

The first step in getting gigs is creating an online profile for folks to view. The secret to attracting clients? “A great head shot is key,” says New York-based Tasker Cliff Schaefer, who made up to $1,000 a week in his first year alone! “A clear photo with a nice smile gives people a sense of whether they will be comfortable with you.” You’ll also have to describe yourself, your skills and the tasks you’d like to do in the “About Me” section: “Make sure you’re articulate—use good grammar and check for typos,” says Schaefer. “It conveys

confidence.”

SET YOUR FEES!

You’ll be able to set your own asking price. The smart move? See what other Taskers in your area are charging for a similar skill set to get an idea, but be careful not to undercut yourself: “I started getting more jobs when I raised my rate,” says Schaefer. “A fee that’s too low makes people think you’re not competent.”

NAB RAVE REVIEWS!

Before any job, make sure you know the details. Schaefer often asks customers to send him photos so he can get a visual of the task and make sure he has everything he needs to carry it out. And above all, be upbeat: “Whatever task you’re doing, be friendly and enthusiastic,” says Schaefer. He gives his positive attitude much of the credit for his multitude of five-star reviews. “People consistently say that I have great energy and make things fun. I had some customers I laughed with the entire time!” All that positive feedback helps lure in even more clients!
