Armchair traveler Spread holiday cheer with Swiss cookies!
❑ ❑ ❑ ❑ ❑ Bake a batch of basler brunsli (chocolate-almond cookies), a Swiss holiday treat since the 16th century!
1 1/2 cups almond flour 1 cup granulated sugar 6 oz. bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 2 egg whites 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar In bowl, combine flour and granulated sugar. In food processor, grind chocolate to crumbly texture; add chocolate to flour mixture. Add cinnamon, cloves and egg whites; mix until combined. Chill dough 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Sprinkle confectioners’ sugar on surface. Roll out dough to 1/2" thickness on sugar; using cookie cutters, cut out shapes. Transfer to baking sheet. Reduce heat to 325°F. Bake cookies 12-15 minutes until slightly firm; do not overbake. Cool 5-10 minutes before transferring to rack. Cool completely. Makes about 12 cookies.
