Give a window box vintage appeal!

-

turn A little whitewash and glue-on accents drawer a wooden box into a fabulous faux com: planter! Here’s the how-to from Joann.

What you’ll need:

1 plain wood window box (like the DIY Unfinished Wood Planter Box, $12, Orientaltrading.com) Embossed moulding trim (like the arched filigreed piece shown between the knobs, at right. (Find a variety of styles, starting at $2 each, at Rockler.com) ❏ Unfinished wood cabinet knobs (Find a variety of styles, starting at $1.50 each, at Rockler.com) ❏ Wood glue ❏ Fine-grit sandpaper ❏ White paint ❏ Potted plants, live or faux (Note: If using live plants, be sure to line the box with a piece of plastic cut from a trash bag. Then sprinkle in some gravel and nestle your plant pots into the box.)

Attach the accents!

Glue knobs and embossed wood moulding onto the front of the window box, as shown. Let dry.

Create a vintage finish!

Rub the box with sandpaper to soften edges for a worn look. Then brush with 1-2 coats of white paint. Let dry. Use sandpaper (or a damp rag) to remove a little bit of the white paint here and there for a vintage look.

Add potted plants!

Fit your plant pots side by side in the window box. Display on a windowsill or as a centerpiece on a tabletop.
