1 Fish oil stops shedding!

In a recent Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology study, 90% of women who took 460 mg. of fish oil daily noticed a significant reduction in hair loss—and 62% increased their hair’s thickness, too! The antiinflammatory omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil help nerve endings in the scalp heal, say researchers.

2Vitamins C and E nurture new growth!

In addition to fish oil, the women in the study took 30 mg. of vitamin C and 5 mg. of vitamin E daily, the amounts in most multivitamins. Why? Because the combination reduces hair-harming free radical damage and improves the health of blood vessels that “feed” the scalp!

3Vitamin D boosts thickness!

“Hair loss is a common sign of a vitamin D deficiency,” says dermatologist Joel Schlessinger, M.D., of Mylovelyskin.com. No surprise, then, that women with the highest level of vitamin D-3 are the least likely to experience thinning, according to research. (Vitamin D may help regulate genes that play a role in hair growth, explain experts.) With your doctor’s okay, take 1,000 IU of vitamin D-3 daily. Tip: Pairing your D-3 with 200 mg. of magnesium helps your body absorb it!

4Biotin adds strength and volume while stopping loss!

A recent UCLA study backs up what doctors have long known: Biotin (aka vitamin B-7) makes hair less brittle and promotes growth and fullness by spurring production of keratin, the protein hair is made of! Aim to take 30 mcg. daily.
