My Guardian Angel

When Woman’s World reader Susan Combes of Clearwater, Florida, was missing her mother, the angels sent a sign from Heaven. She writes:

-

My mother and I had many things in common, including a love of animals. Mom especially adored birds. She would sit for hours by the window in the family room, watching her feathered friends flit from tree to tree, splash around in the birdbath and nibble the seeds she left out for them.

Mother’s favorite winged creatures were cardinals. Because cardinals are shy and skittish, their rare visits meant a lot to her. Her face would light up at the sound of their high-pitched “cheeping” that announced their arrival.

She loved the beautiful red birds so much that my sister and I always knew what gifts Mom would like most. Cardinal pictures, pillows, switch plates filled her home . . . all reminders of her special little birds.

When Mom became ill, I was heartbroken. I couldn’t imagine my life without her. When she passed, I was missing her so terribly that I asked God to send me a sign, letting me know that she was happy and safe in Heaven.

The next morning, as I was driving down my street, suddenly, a bird swooped down and landed in the middle of the road ahead of me. As I approached, I saw that it was a red cardinal. The bird stood there for several minutes, looking straight at me.

I felt instant joy because I knew that this bird was a Heavenly messenger. A feeling of peace washed over me, as though I had just been

hugged by my mom. I excitedly shared the news

with my sister, and she was equally thrilled! This June was my mother’s birthday, and I was very sad and lonely thinking about her. Once again, I asked the angels to let me know that she was well and happy.

Within a half hour of that prayer, I heard the familiar “cheep, cheep” of a cardinal. I rushed to the window, and sure enough, a regal cardinal was sitting on the edge of my birdbath, looking right at me!

I quickly took a photo of him just seconds before he flew away. In disbelief, I wept tears of joy, know- ing that my mother had sent a sign that she was thinking of me, watching over me like a guardian angel!

“I have no doubt that Susan’s mother and the angels conspired to send her these miraculous messages of comfort,” says angel expert Kyle Gray.

“When our loved ones cross over, the angels gather even closer around us. They will do everything in their power to heal our hearts.

“The angels love to send signs of their presence, especially signs that have special meaning—like cardinals have for Susan. I would not be surprised if her mother continues to use the cardinal as her calling card whenever she is near.”

“The angels sent a gift that made me know Mom was still with me!” Susan marvels
