Asa retired flight attendant and a caregiver for my mother, I’m always looking to earn extra cash. So when a friend told me about Hopskipdrive, a ride service for families, it seemed like a great way to make money on my own schedule.

“I applied at Hopskipdrive. com and provided my driver’s license, insurance and registration. I also got fingerprinted and had photos taken of me and my car. Then, I attended an orientation, and I was ready to start.

“Each week, I set my schedule on the app. When someone requests a ride, I get a notification on my phone. When I leave for the trip, the app notifies the parent that I’m on my way. I have instructions about where to pick up the kids and how to get in touch with the parent. I have a company logo on my car, and I wear an orange shirt so they can identify me. When the child gets in my car, they provide a code word for their safety, and I take them to their destination and walk them to the door or wait until they get in. The company monitors me the whole time.

“My hours vary, but I usually work 25 hours a week. The amount I earn depends on the distance I drive and how many rides I do, but the minimum is $14 an hour.

“I love giving parents peace of mind that their kids are safe. I also like that it’s flexible, so I can care for my mom. The money I make, $500 to $550 a week, pays for my daughter’s college.”
