Renee and Jean Ann make $ 3,600 a month making yard signs

-

Back in 2016, my friend Jean Ann invited me to lunch and said, ‘Let’s start a business,’” shares Renee. “She said, ‘We’ll make plywood signs that we’ll decorate to celebrate everything from a baby to graduation to retirement. We’ll install them in customers’ yards, then take the signs down and reuse them.’

“I laughed. I’d never even picked up a power tool, but Jean Ann was insistent. She hadn’t either, but how hard could it be?

“Our husbands taught us how to use saws and sanders. We bought supplies, found designs we liked, made patterns and used our new jigsaw to cut them out.

“We named our business Yard Yap. Our first two signs were a truck and the number seven for a little boy’s seventh birthday. We posted a photo on social media, and BOOM, we started getting orders!

“One of our favorite birthday signs was for a woman over 90. Being recognized publicly brought her to tears, and us too! The joy we deliver is the best part of our job.

“We work about 10 hours a week promoting Yard Yap on social media, designing, cutting, sanding, painting, setting up and taking down the signs. Together, we earn about $3,600 a month—money that lets us do fun things like take girls’ trips!”
