Make a splash!
THURSDAY, JULY 11 NATIONAL SWIMMING POOL DAY
Taking a dip in a pool is certainly refreshing, but research shows it can also make you even smarter! In a study published in the American Journal of Physiology, Australian researchers found that people who lounged in warm water (86°F) for 10 minutes experienced a 14% increase in blood flow to their cerebral arteries— an effect that has been shown to boost the production of hormones related to learning and reasoning. The study authors credit the finding to changes in blood pressure and carbon dioxide levels in the blood, which enhance blood flow to the brain to sharpen your mind.
