Candace makes $ 350 a month renting out household goods

When Candace Leak realized she could earn money loaning her belongings out to others, she started raking in cash! Here’s how she did it

After putting our two children in private school, my husband and I had to make adjustments in our lives that would cut expenses. I’m a stay-athome mom, and I didn’t want to get a job outside of the house, so I was in search of out-of-the-box ways to make extra money. At the same time, I was hosting a party for my dad and found it hard to find things to borrow or rent for the party, like tables and chairs. And then it clicked! If I was looking for items to rent, other people must be looking too.

“I had been active in the buy, sell and trade groups on Facebook—selling things my kids no longer needed and buying things they did. It gave me the idea to rent out our household goods similarly, making it just as easy to rent as it is to buy.

“We own tons of stuff, everything from tools and party supplies to camping gear and kids’ toys. I started listing it all on Facebook for rent. At first, my husband was afraid our things would get damaged or stolen, but we haven’t had any problems. In the first year alone, I made around $4,000 renting out things like a sewing machine ($20/day), a wheelbarrow ($5/day) and a pop-up tent and canopy ($20/day)! Then in early 2017, I started Loanables.com, a website that helps other stay-athome moms make money renting out their belongings.

“The money I earn goes toward vacations and our kids’ tuition. And we let the kids rent out their things as well. They get to save their earnings or spend it on something they want.”
