Today’s the day to let go of negative thoughts—it can make you feel physically lighter, say researcher­s at Princeton University. In their study, subjects who recalled doing something unethical in the past reported feeling heavier and like it took more effort to perform actions, such as carrying groceries up a flight of stairs, compared to people who only thought of past good deeds. Psychologi­sts call this “embodied cognition,” a phenomenon in which the brain relates physical conditions like weight with emotional ones like guilt. So the next time you make a mistake, take it easy on yourself—you’ll feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders!
