Over 50? This is your miracle

Discover the protein secret helping women like Tamela reignite metabolism and lose 100 lbs without feeling deprived

Lord, guide me to a path of healing, prayed Grammy-winning gospel singer Tamela Mann as she lay in a hotel bed, her legs throbbing after a long night onstage. Decades of weight struggles and high heels had left her in need of a double knee replacement— but doctors were holding off, giving her time to lose a few pounds so her recovery would be easier. Since a low-carb plan had helped her a few years prior, she’d been trying to cut back on potatoes and bread. But at 52, her body wasn’t responding like it used to. And now, out of the blue, Weight Watchers had called and offered to partner with her. It’d be nice not giving up carbs, Tamela thought. But can I stick with it? She was hesitant. They wanted a professional commitment, and she couldn’t say yes until she felt sure

Weeks passed, and Tamela continued to pray and reflect. Growing up as one of 14, her family couldn’t always afford the healthiest food. And as she became a mom herself, her career took off; juggling little ones and constant travel meant she and her husband, David, often ended up sharing takeout or restaurant meals. Of course, with her kids grown, she had more options. Yet surgery was looming, and there was no time for mistakes. Should she try to be more strict about cutting carbs? Closing her eyes, she suddenly knew in her heart: All those rich low-carb foods never felt

good. I want to come back stronger than ever, and that means nourishing my body. It’s time for something different.

Soon Tamela was at a virtual meeting learning about “WW.” Her new coach Nicole explained that every food had been given a point value based on its calories and nutrient content and Tamela would get a point allotment to use as she chose. Any time she didn’t feel like measuring and tracking, she could simply eat her fill from a long list of “zero point” foods—which included fruit, veggies, yogurt, lean protein, beans and more. “So it’s like you have a budget and see how far you can make it stretch?” she asked. Nicole nodded. Tamela smiled. “I might be good at this!”
