3 tips to a fun watch night

-

1 Serve a ‘red carpet’ cake

Though it looks impressive, this delicious dessert couldn’t be easier to create! To do: Mix up red velvet cake batter, divide into 3 round cake pans and bake. As layers cool, fill a large zip-top bag with cream cheese icing and snip off a corner to create a piping bag. Set a layer on a cake plate, then pipe round “drops” of icing on top. Add the next layer; repeat. For the final layer, pipe icing drops around edge of cake and fill the center with berries.

2 Enjoy an Oscar playlist

Set the mood for movie fun before the broadcast by playing a playlist of on-theme tunes. Simply search Spotify for “The Oscars– Best Original Song” playlist. The list includes some of the most iconic Oscar-nominated (or Oscar-winning!) songs, ranging from “Mona Lisa” by Nat King Cole to “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion.

3 Have a paparazzi station

There might not be a traditional red- carpet broadcast this year, but you can enjoy a stylish photo op of your own! Simply dress up a bare wall with a fun backdrop (like a shimmering foil fringe curtain from the party store or a red plastic tablecloth). Then fill a basket with props like feather boas, sunglasses, dress-up tiaras and hats. Play photographer or set your phone on a tripod (like Polarduck Phone Tripod, $16, Amazon.com) and pose away.
