Joanne makes over $2k a month selling loungewear

Joanne Jarrett couldn’t find cozy loungewear with braless support, so she created it herself and cashed in!

‘‘ When my f irst daughter was born, I decided to leave my job as a family physician to stay home with her. I liked wearing easy-to-pull-on, cozy and comfortable camis that didn’t require me to wear a bra. Everything I found, however, was either a cami or slinky lingerie. Around the same time, I listened to a podcast interview with a woman who had no manufacturing experience but launched a bra company that funded her son’s college education! It inspired me to launch Shelfie Shoppe.

“I took an online class in apparel production and learned how to use my drawings to develop a prototype, then hired professionals to create the pattern from my prototype. I found vendors and a manufacturer and ran a Kickstarter campaign to raise funding.

I focused on building an online following f irst, so I started a blog about company updates, health and faith—topics I knew my future customer base was interested in.

“I sell loungewear and sleepwear that have stretchy cups sewn in that give women enough coverage and support without added bulk or the dreaded ‘uniboob.’ All of the pieces are made in the U.S. from highquality fabric. I sell them on the website (Shelfieshoppe.com) and at local markets. To spread the word, I use Instagram and Facebook, email marketing, celebrity outreach and host the Fancy Free Podcast.

“I bring in $28,000 a year, and we’re growing. The money I make goes back into the business and is used to develop new st yles and for marketing.”
