“Stinging nettle cured my allergies!”

- —Taz Bhatia, M.D. — Katie Smith

After decades of suffering year-round with a runny nose, scratchy throat and sinus infections, Sarah Ratliff finally found a natural antihistamine that worked miracles

M‘‘ y head feels like it is going to explode!” Sarah Ratliff groaned, struggling to get through another day with severe allerg y symptoms.

Sarah had suffered from allergic rhinitis since she was 18 years old. And she didn’t just have trouble during the spring and summer months, when the pollen count was high. Symptoms raged year-round and could be triggered by breathing in dust, animal dander and numerous other irritants. She’d get blinding headaches, a runny nose and a scratchy throat almost every day. Sometimes her sinuses were so bad that it hurt to even touch her face.

Sarah tried a variety of remedies over the years with little relief. In order to just get through her days, she had to take a nasal decongestant daily, along with performing nasal irrigation irr g with her neti pot, which brought only temporary relief. And if Sarah missed her regimen for even one day, she’d get impacted sinuses or an agonizing sinus infection. So she stuck with the regimen.

This is no way to live, she thought sadly.

Natural remedy

Then, t wo years ago, while talking to a friend who is a natural healer, Sarah shared her frustration at being unable to f ind any longlasting relief. Her friend suggested she tr y stinging nettle. Sarah had never heard of it, so her friend sent her some information, along with studies about its effectiveness at treating rhinitis. Sarah learned that stinging nettle is a root that grows in temperate climates and the tropics. It has long been considered a natural antihistamine, disrupting the allerg y process by inhibiting the body’s histamine production and related inf lammation. The National Library of Medicine published a study that showed participants had signif icant improvement in clinical symptom severity using stinging nettle.

Excited and hopeful, Sarah wasted no time buying some. You can purchase stinging nettle at your local health-food store or on Amazon, and it usually costs between $15 and $20 for a bottle of 100 doses.

Sarah began taking one 500 mg. capsule a day with her breakfast and was amazed at how quickly her symptoms improved. Within days, she was able to stop using her neti pot— and a few days later, she stopped taking her nasal decongestant too.

Sarah has been free of both treatments ever since, and today feels better than ever. “My life has improved in so many ways,” Sarah, now 57, says. Not only did all of her allerg y symptoms vanish, Sarah says that stinging nettle has also helped regrow her thinning hair and boost her sluggish metabolism due to menopause. “I am so grateful my friend told me about this natural remedy. It’s changed my life!”

“Stinging nettle is study-proven to reduce symptoms of allergic rhinitis.”
