In “Taking Measure” in issue 275 (July 2021), Dave Campbell mentioned cutting “100 lineal feet” with a cordless router. Although Webster’s dictionary considers the words “linear” and “lineal” synonymous, “linear” is the preferred usage in this context. “Lineal” pertains more to ancestry, as in “lineage.”
