A shady solution for a clean worksurface

To protect my benchtop during glue-ups and finishing, I mounted an inexpensive vinyl window blind on the end of the bench. When I need to protect the surface, I simply roll it out. After use, I release the spring lock and let it roll back to the end of the bench. The vinyl wipes clean easily with a damp cloth and, when it wears out, replacing it won’t break the bank.
