Blackstone’s Bourgeois earns Eagle rank
BLACKSTONE – Matthew Bourgeois of Troop 1 Blackstone reached the pinnacle of scouting by earning the rank of Eagle Scout, at a Court of Honor held on Jan. 9 at St. Paul’s Church in Blackstone.
Bourgeois began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub in Pack 2 Cumberland. After transferring to Pack 3144 Blackstone, he earned the Light of Christ and Cub Scout’s highest award – the Arrow of Light. Bourgeois crossed over to Troop 1 Blackstone in February, 2009.
Bourgeois earned 41 merit badges and the Bronze Palm. He held leader- ship positions of Scribe, Assistant Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader. He attended Camp Yawgoog for seven years (where he earned the Silver COPE award in 2015). Bourgeois attended White Stag Leadership Training in preparation to becoming Senior Patrol Leader. He was also elected into the Order of the Arrow and later the Brotherhood of the Arrow.
For his Eagle project, Bourgeois built two picnic tables and landscaped the area surrounding the monument at Attilio Valati Park in Blackstone.
At his Eagle ceremony, presentations were made by Mass. State Rep. Kevin Kuros, state Sen. Ryan Fattman’s office, Blackstone Selectwoman Margot Bik, and the Sons of the American Revolution.
Citations from President Barack Obama; former Presidents Jimmy Carter, George Bush, and George W Bush; Senator Elizabeth Warren; Blackstone police and fire departments, among others were acknowledged.
Bourgeois is a senior at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School and plans to attend college in the fall.
