Mixed Magic Theatre Company to honor MLK

-

PAWTUCKET — Rhode Island’s Blackstone River Valley pays tribute to an American icon over the Jan. 15-18 weekend, as the nation celebrates the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968).

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Federal holiday commemorating Dr. King’s birth, and his leadership as the father of our country’s Civil Rights Movement, where he advocated for human rights through non-violence.

Dr. King began the efforts for a more racially equal society in 1955, in response to the Montgomery, Ala. bus boycott.

However, Dr. King became widely known for his oratory in the summer of 1963, when he delivered his most powerful “I Have A Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., during the Poor Peoples’ March.

Honoring our Civil Rights leader

Friday-Sunday, Jan. 15-17, Mixed Magic Theatre, 560 Mineral Spring Avenue, Pawtucket, presents a special performance of A Dramatized Reading of Martin Luther King's Letter from the Birmingham City Jail.

After each performance audiences will be invited to join in a brief discussion about their experience with the director, actors and organizers.
