Police: Woman gave alcohol to 12-year-old who was raped
WOONSOCKET – Police have charged a second adult with supplying alcohol to a 12-year-old girl who told police last week she was raped after drinking vodka with two adults during a sleepover party with a girlfriend her own age.
Carmen Martinez, 37, of 222 Morin Heights Blvd., was arrested Friday on a single count of procurement or purchase of alcohol for a minor, according to police reports.
Martinez is the girlfriend of Emmanuel Guzman, 29, also of 222 Morin Heights Blvd., who was arrested one one count of first-degree child molestation and two counts of procurement or purchase of alcohol for a minor last Wednesday.
Police say the alleged victim was having a sleepover with Martinez’s daughter at the time of the alleged rape, which allegedly took place in a first-floor apartment at 542 East School St. The crime took place in midApril, but police did not learn of it until last week, when the victim confided in a school resource officer at Villa Nova Middle School.
Police reports say the victim told police she consumed approximately five shots of vodka that were supplied to
her by Martinez and Guzman.
Sometime after consuming the vodka, she went back to her friend’s room, where they danced and talked about boys for a while before the two apparently fell asleep. At some point, Guzman allegedly entered the room and took her to the bathroom, where they removed their clothing, took a shower together and had oral sex before he put her on the floor and had sexual intercourse with her.
The girl told police she ran back to her friend’s bedroom when she and Guzman thought they heard someone else in the house waking up.
Police say Guzman confessed during an interview at police headquarters following his arrest last week.
He is held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending a hearing on May 18, according to the judiciary’s web site.
Arraignment information for Martinez was not immediately available, but procuring alcohol for a minor is classified as a misdemenear. Afirst offense is punishable by a maximum fine of $1,000 and a jail term of not more than six months.
